Meeting: President Doug Thornton conducted a short business meeting and announcements were made for local magic events and upcoming lectures. Norm Rosen reported good and welfare – Chris Smith is recovering well.

Our lecturer this month was Bob Sheets – the one and only Bob Sheets. Bob’s performance style has been honed over many years of professional performing; his real-time situation stories and his keen sense of humor set the scene for a solid magical learning session and an enjoyable evening.

Bob has a great personality and stage persona. He says when people see him they think he looks like a truck driver, he talks funny and couldn’t possibly be the entertaining magician. But he is – and he wows them – and he sure wowed us.

Bob shared, explained and taught numerous magic effects during the lecture. I’ll just cover a few.

Bob did a giant 3 Card Monte – using more than three cards – with an amazing ending displaying a royal flush. He commented that the 3 Card Monte is a one act play – you’re the act – when you are out of money you are out of the play.

Bob’s Super/Multiplying Bunnies is super fun and proves one of his key points – “enjoy your magic – play with the audience – they came to have fun – and they’ll remember it.”

Six Tricks in Two Minutes – one of his favorite card effects is fun, fast moving and full of entertainment. Bob explained: the Three Ball Trick done right in a spectator’s hands was dazzling; a unique Marked Cards with a stunning ending; ESP mentalism; Skull Cracker – interesting handling of the bill switch and strong visual revelation; It’s The Rules – an exotic, fun and dumbfounding dice routine – smooth and powerful; Copper, Silver, Brass three coin transposition; Flash Deck – wonder-working concept with many possibilities; Safety Pins that simulate the linking ring routine – even in the spectator’s hands; and his famous Shell Game routine – all I can say is seeing is believing.

Bob Sheets’ lecture is full of good ideas, visual and doable magic, great humor lines, interesting performance tips and a shared love for the art of magic.

If Bob Sheets comes to your area don’t miss the opportunity to see and hear him.
