President, Scott Leavitt, conducted the business meeting. We installed assembly officers for the next magical year: President, Doug Thornton – VP, Joe Sagarese – Secretary, Jim Flood – Treasurer, John Lapeire – Web Master, Mike Fordice. Good and Welfare: Norm Rosen reported Bob Pearce and Ron Neubauer are recuperating at home.

June is our annual Jim Hart – Excellence in Magic Contest. This years contest was fun and exciting for all – a wonderful evening of magical fun and entertainment.

Scott Leavitt had a card selected and then spoke of love, marriage and decision-making and illustrated with the deck of cards. The volunteer kept dealing, cutting and picking a pile - dealing, cutting and picking a pile - until only the selected card remained proving the volunteers power of love to make decisions.

Bob Ward, assisted by Barbara Ward, performed several effects with a deck of cards, a ring, a knife and beautiful display rack with magic silk – the selected card was determined – and the ring disappeared and ended up in the Chinese tea bag – Lip-Ton – an amazing feat and some real fine magic.

Mike Fordice performed some really incredible card effects – working off the theme that magicians cheat – a card was selected from red deck – the next thing we knew was the deck was blue and only the selection was red. Then a mental card trick – volunteer selects and Mike selects and the packets and selection switch location. Last Mike played the game show Double Jeopardy make piles of cards and asked answers and the questions led to the selected cards. You’ve got to see this one to believe it.

Norm Rosen spoke of precognition and used an imaginary deck of cards and a prediction envelope – and believe it or not, the thought of selected card was in the envelope – a giant card - beautifully performed and very entertaining.

Greg Ferdinand utilized a rope routine and wound it around a metaphor for life – with a beginning – a middle – and an end – in difficult times the ends come off – circle of rope – ends change ends – three different sizes – all the same size – life has many wonderful stages and Greg’s magic has many incredible mysteries.

Ralph Candelori started with two decks of cards and performed some extraordinary, unexplainable miracles in finding selected and thought of cards – to difficult to explain – he finished up with the selected card being found at a number in the deck given by the volunteers friend on the other end of a cell phone - this is amazing magic and amazing technology.

Gene Soucek did a humorous comedy routine about Houdini the great escape artist and debunker of psychics – so famous we still speak of him today – then used a blue ribbon, a playing card and a box to demonstrate Houdini skills of escaping dangerous knots, chains and boxes.

Bob Simek presented a story about stocks and bonds and buying and selling – comparing his Bo-Bo 52 with the S&P 500 – cards representing nationally traded companies – and you guest it – from all the 52 different companies listed – the selected company was found in an eye popping manner – we were fooled, astonished and entertained.

Guru Subramanian started with a color prediction where he demonstrated how different colors have different levels of influence on people. The spectator randomly eliminated sets of cards placed on a four-color wheel – the final selection left matched the card in the prediction envelope. Guru then dazzled us with a visual torn and restored card effect – a signed card is torn into four pieces – fused with lighter – and restored in a beautiful flash.

Contest Winners: 1st Guru, 2nd Scott Leavitt, 3rd Greg Ferdinand, 4th Mike Fordice and 5th Ralph Candelori.
